Helping Community

“Bajura Landslide Survivors”

On June 28th, 2012 a fund raising and documentary viewing program was conducted at KUSOM (Kathmandu University School Of Management) so as to help the survivors of Bajura landslide victims. This program was a initiative by KUSOM social club in collaboration with Rotary Club (Dillibazar), NYCA, YDRR, Rotaract Club of Dillibazar, Rotaract club of Kathmandu-Midtown and Nepal Mountain Bike, various youths and youth groups.
We were formally greeted by the opening speech by Vice Coordinator of SWC namely Ms. Anna Deuja and Co.ordinator of SWC Ms. Sony Munarkarmi. She started off the program with the excerpt of the recent updates regarding the Bajura Landslide which included After which the attendees of the program watched a short yet sad video which included  sight of dead corpse of baby lying on the ground, woman crying their heart out and perquisites of development at its worse, I couldn’t bear to look at the screen for long which made me realize if  seeing was so terrible then how would it feel to live and be in such a helpless state? The program lastly ended with detailed report on the Bajura Landslide and the fundraising program where everyone gave as per their wish .
The major facts related to the Landslide at Bajura were
·         31st May 2012 9:30 pm was when the devastating landslide took place in ward 9 of Bandhu VDC, Bajura
·         Washed away 57 houses and shops and left five people dead and many injured.
·          Destroyed the Kolti Water Supply System, Kolti Primary Health Centre, 4-5 km of Kolti Pipaldali road, 50-60 ropanis of agricultural land and local irrigation systems
·         The victims are all from poor families and most are “Dalits”

I couldn’t help significantly money wise but vowed to raise awareness with people in my society because whatever might have occurred  but “Bygones are Bygones”,  we can’t do anything about it but we Nepalese citizen for the sake of humanity and brotherhood can help in whatever possible ways we can either monetarily or through awareness by sharing about this campaign to our fellow society members.

Haven’t hurt anyone !!!

Things aren’t as they used to be
Yesterday I was pushed on the edge of the cliff
Today I’m back again with a bang
But won’t still hurt people who care
THEY, who point fingers,
And throw pebbles and
Read my mind all wrong
Shall crush their soul
and wish for  KARMA
 to ATTACK them
Didn’t hurt anyone so won’t let anyone hurt me either
Shall take lifelong commitment
To treasure my smile
And work  genuinely earn the smile
And bring twinkle to  my own eyes
And  fulfill  all my whims, today or tomorrow
Yet won’t steal anyone’s treasured smile  during my strife
Haven’t stolen anyone's smile
so won’t let anyone steal my smile either

The gibberish me
Bubbly and vocal
Either shouting and fighting for
My own whims or others
Won’t let that articulation and fun
In me die
Shall read jokes, find glass half full
Yet not let the Tease and youthfulness die
Shall always shout as loud
Not just for my own whims but others as well
Haven’t  crushed anyone’s whims and spirit  till date
So won’t let anyone crush my spirit away…

With wing spread out
And sky as a destination
Have always dreamt so
Will do anything to touch the sky
Even if it means to fall down several times
Even if it means to fail today so as to succeed
YET I won’t break anyone’s wings and
Rob them off their dreams to fly
and so won’t anyone rob my dream to fly either…

Just have done what I  wanted to do
what I must
So as to be who I want to be
The pitiful person they are
who   don’t know how it is to
Dream, fall and pick one self up
Have never hurt them
But they who have hurt
So, bear the brunt
And be ready to be hurt
With crushed   soul
And Karma ready to attack
STILL, won’t hurt anyone
So won’t let anyone hurt me either !!!

DESIRE

Just the same…Yet so different
Ms. Sadiksha Thapa
Struggling writer/poet
Weather has changed
Moments have passed
Gifts have unwrapped
Statements and reality
Have parted their ways

Yet the desire to get more
Desire to get more and be more  happy
Dream more yet be rooted in reality
Desire to expect life yet believe in death
Laugh yet know impending boom…
 hasn’t changed

Everything is so different yet the same!!!

Poem

          Metamorphosis into a "INSOMINIAC" lover...

Nowadays nights go without sleeping
All I do is DREam
about the time when I first see you
Your magnetic personality then and still now
can't stop attracting me
Just like a snake has the picture of a person penetrated
who took away its diamond
Your face has penetrated in me
So much that I feel
The air that I breathe feels like your touch
The passerby world feels nothing but a part of you baby
why do I find these days talking to myself
I feel as though my heart is obsessed
When you pass I find the breeze passby
When you go back I find the same cool breeze suffocate me
Why is this happening to ME baby???
Why tell me baby???

The heart that was priceless
The heart that listened
to your talks faithfully
which were ingnored by others
The heart that secretly admired
your multi million dollar smile
that were display of "yellow teeth" by others
The heart that was obsessed
for the time you entered the room
which was nothing until you entered
The heart that fell you baby is LOST now

Nowadays nights go without sleeping
All do is SEARCH tirelessly
for my lost heart

Why I feel as though my mind is obsessed
my heart is lost and everything is nothing
until you are there
the diamond even AS BIG AS RITZ
feels nothing but a piece of stone
but a worthless stone touched by you
seems the most precious
Why is this happeneing to ME baby ???
Why tell me baby

Hewlett-Packard Company case

Synopsis- The case relates with the H-P company’s share of challenges in terms of the contingency factors of organizing and necessary adjustments in the structure and the contingency factors to solve the structural problem.
CASE FACTS
Hewlett-Packard Company (H-P) faced its organizing challenges over the times .Initially when the first woman CEO at H-P Ms. Carly Fiorina (1999) acquisition and subsequent difference in opinion with the BOD members of the company caused the company to suffer performance wise degradation. Due to this Ms. Carly Fiorina lost her designation to Mark Hurd, CEO of NCR.
Even after Mr. Mark Hurd was chosen H-P did face organization challenges. As stated by the company’s sales force as well as the employees inside H-P didn’t know who to call at H-P because of the company’s confusing management layers. The company’s head of corporate technology told the CEO that once he had to wait for quite long time to get the approval in order to fire sales specialists.
The CEO analyzed the root organizational problem by delving into sales structure .He found through his analysis that there were way many organizational layers (broader), .The involvement of sales persons were way more than typically employed in rival companies.
After analysis CEO resolved the organizational challenge by firing underperformers and eliminating three layers of management. Additionally the CEO eliminated one sales group entirely and merged them with other sales groups. Also sales representative were assigned to only one customer in order to help them to know who to call.
After these amendments the company had accelerated decision making power and the statistics showed that salespersons spent 40% of the time with their customers as opposed to 30% time before the new sales structure was implemented.

RECOMMENDATIONS
1.      Planning is the backbone of the organizational function..So in order to bring out the best result proper planning is essential before making any organizational move.
2.       No design or structural elements are good or  bad. The most important thing is the best match according to the aspects of the organization. For e.g. - Organization with 2000 or more employees should be more mechanistic than Organic.
3.      The top level manager of any company shouldn’t take the designation as a means of power practice but should understand the responsibility that comes with the power. The major responsibility of the company’s CEO (say) is to remove his/her decision bias and focus on the research , training and  lastly keeping aside of ego and  instead ask for help if the CEO  is not well equipped with handling the particular decision .For e.g. –Confirmation decision bias of  former CEO ,Ms. Carly Fiorina cost the company major performance lapses.
4.      In today’s world of free market and Globalization  and change, be it small organization or big organization every organization should be a learning organization .The learning organization  is the organization which has enough capacity to continuously change, adapt  and move towards best results through collaborative efforts.

Jawlakhel Handicraft Center

Introduction:
According to research conducted on- Nepal’s industrial sector, it is said that “Until mid-20th Century, only about 0.66% of Nepal's GDP was derived from the industrial sector .After  which Nepal included industrial development as a major task to  in economic planning. That is when myriad industries majorly related to “tourism, carpet manufacturing, textiles, small rice, jute, sugar, and oilseed mills, cigarettes, cement and brick production”, were started and which  helped Nepal to slowly move  towards sustainable development .”
Amongst these industries Carpet Industry is a promising one. Carpet industry has been creating employment opportunities in Nepal and if records are to be believed has been collecting about $849 million (2009 A.D)  annually by exporting quality carpets/rugs. Amongst the list of such carpet industries of Nepal, one of the name is Jawalakhel (Nepalase: जावलाखेल) Handicraft Center (JHC) which is a Carpet/rugs manufacturing industry located in Jawlakahel.
Generally people think that industry are always profit oriented, JHC breaks this  stereotypical notion and has been working entirely for the betterment of the Tibetans and their families residing in the nation by managing the them in the most resourceful manner.

History Of JHC:
“Athiti Devo Bhawa” or “God bless Guests” is a saying that is deeply rooted within every Nepalese .After China invaded Tibet in 1959, Tibetans who fled from Tibet and followed H.H. Dalai lama, sought asylum to Nepal. Since then Nepal Government has maintained a healthy relationship with all the Tibetans. JHC is one of the indicators of the bond between Nepal and Tibet which was built on the land given by His Majesty’s government.
Women in the Tibetan family weave carpet at the birth of their daughter and also teach her child (daughter) the basic skill of weaving carpet at a tender age of nine or ten. This very carpet as well as the skill of weaving carpet acts as a direct kinship of the mother and her daughter especially after the daughter gets married.
Back to history again, after Tibetans fled from their native land and entered Nepal yet with the need to survive in a foreign land (Nepal) sans their previous stock of food, money and other possessions . His Majesty’s government (HMG) and Swiss Aid and Technical Assistance (SATA) teamed up and made the decision to help the Tibetan and so converted the refugee center into Jawlakhel Handicraft Center( JHC).Through JHC Tibetan refugees were helped by  commercializing  women’s carpet weaving skill  to produce world’s best quality carpets.
